Pancake Day

January 27, 2009

Loretta J. Rizzuti says the Build Lincoln Higher Pancake Day is this SATURDAY, JANUARY 31st from 7 am to 12 noon in the LHS Cafeteria. The cost is $5.00 (under age 2 is FREE).

“Senior Celebration will have baskets put together and items that have been sent to us by organizations ( football, baseball, soccer, organizations ) for our raffle and silent auction (tickets can be purchased at the Pancake Day – with proceeds going towards the Senior Celebration on April 25 – 26, 2009. This is a great opportunity to see the improvements to the school since last year. And a great way to show support to Lincoln.”

Nacho Machine

January 19, 2009

A plea from Deb Dresback:

Every summer our church, Christ The King, has many fundraisers which go to help local home less shelters, battered women and children, the nursing homes, and on and on. The past 2 years during our money raising we have rented a nacho machine to make and sell nachos, which has shown quite a profit. Carol Weyer one of our dearest members suggested we buy one, and have no more rental.

I took this project on because it will be in memory of David Bowen. It will have a plaque on it reading.. In Memory Of David Bowen, then the dates.

The machine will cost almost $1000….I am asking my classmates to help in any way they can. The machine is ordered, and will soon be delivered. I thought it was a great way to remember Dave, as he was a member of our parrish and his funeral was the biggest funeral we have ever had.

Please ask our classmates that I can use all the help they can give, so we can pay for this machine. I am planning on donating. My Mom will donate from my late Dad’s funds. I have a lot of our classmates helping..But, I need more..So, If any of our classmates would like to donate to this cause they may send their checks or money to the church directly, like this:

Christ The King Chuch
% Mrs.Carol Weyer
Chairman of Funds for Dave Bowen Nacho Machine Fund
Des Moines IA

Or My self made out to
Christ The King
Nacho machine fund for David Bowen
5600 SW 9th St
Des Moines,IA
50315

Or to home, and I will take them to the church

Deb Swanson Dresback
1004 Bundy Street
Des Moines,IA
50315

I want this to kind of be from our class, as a memorial for Dave, and all the people the money from this machine will help. For anyone who can. We would love it. No amount is too small. I need all of your help.

UPDATE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2009:

I want to take a minute to thank all of you that are responding with memorial gifts for Dave. I have received letters from classmates, with such kind words, and totally back of this project. When I get the money I see that Carol Weyer gets it, we are almost half way, and I hope more keeps coming. Thanks class of 1973 for being there, as always. This is a great memorial..

Judy knew what was coming and sent this email out Monday:

Dearest Family & Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know some sad news about my dad and also to apologize f/my lack of communication during the holidays. I was bombarded w/the dreaded flu-of EVERY variety and dealing w/dad and pnuemonia. I do hope the new year is bringing you all good health and prosperity. I’ll send out New Years cards when time allows.

This past Wednesday my dad was admitted to the Boone Cnty Hospital with his 3rd bout of Pnue in about a month . Over the past several months his health has really deteriorated due to multiple TIA’s (mini strokes). Long story short, he no longer has a gag reflex and everything he swallows goes down into his lungs. Right now he is in Hospice care @BCH. Probably a few days left. He does have a few moments of recognition, but f/the most part is comatose w/his eyes open. He has not taken anything in since about Sat and that was not much. Everything is shutting down. Only comfort meds are being given and funeral plans are being made.

If you didn’t have the privilege of knowing my dad he was such a hoot. Always there for us w/a smile and understood my need for fun and adventure and silliness.

I would just like to ask you all for continued thoughts and prayers. Our family puts all of our faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and know he has the power to get us through this sad and trying time and i would like to ask to all to lift my dad and our family up and prayer.

Thanks for being the good friends that you are! God Bless. Judi & Fam
