Dave Bowen

Sandi & Dave on their honeymoon last April

Sandi & Dave on their honeymoon last April at Puerto Aventura, Mexico while sightseeing at the Riviera Maya. Dave loved the ocean.

Sandi Zavalla Bowen writes in with a special request to the class to honor her husband Dave:

Dear LHS Class of ’73 fellow classmates,

If you were a friend of  Dave Bowen from grade school or high school , could you email me a note to share any stories of what memories you have of  Dave, or what you remember about him or doing anything with him for my Christmas stocking?  I’ve had some police officers send me the same, and it provides me w/ so much comfort to keep his  memory alive.

I feel this is a nice way for me to get through my first Christmas without him.

Thanks,

Sandi Zavalla

That was their favorite photo, above.  They had it enlarged for Dave’s visitation and displayed it accompanied by this poem:

Should You Go First

Should you go first and I remain,
to walk the road alone,
I’ll live in memories garden, dear,
with happy days we’ve known.
In spring I’ll wait for roses red,
when faded, the lilacs blue.
In early fall when brown leaves fall,
I’ll catch a glimpse of you.,

Should you go first and I remain,
for battles to be fought,
Each thing you’ve touched along the way,
will be a hollowed spot.
I’ll hear your voice, I’ll see your smile,
so blindly I may grope.
The memory of your helping hand
will bouy me on this hope.

Should you go first and I remaiin,
one thing I’ll have to do,
Walk slowly down that long, long path
for soon I’ll follow you.
I want to know each step you take,
so I may take the same
For someday down that lonely road,
you’ll hear me call your name.

Love you,
Zavalla

So whaddaya waiting for? Get busy!  You can email Sandi at szavalla -at- iowarealty -dot- com.  I purposely garbled that address so that Nigerian spammers don’t email Sandi by plucking her address off this public website with a spambot but you can reassemble her email by replacing the -at- with @ and the -dot- with a period.  If you can’t get it to work, email me and I’ll send you the address.   While you’re at it, why don’t you add some nice things in the comments to this post as well?
